Liverpool will stop working with specialist throw-in coach Thomas Gronnemark at the end of the season.
Jurgen Klopp brought the 47-year-old Dane in five years ago to help improve this particular area of Liverpool’s game.
Gronnemark wanted to increase the number of times he worked with the Liverpool players at the AXA Training Centre but Klopp and his staff decided against it and they have amicably parted ways.
Gronnemark worked for Liverpool on a freelance basis and is also employed by numerous other clubs around the world, including Ajax in the Netherlands, French Cup winners Toulouse and Philadelphia Union in the United States.
His visits to work with Liverpool became increasingly infrequent during the Covid pandemic and his work of late was primarily sending in an analysis of their throw-ins.

Gronnemark tweeted: ‘All good things come to an end. Liverpool and I have decided not to continue our agreement about the throw-in coaching after five great seasons.
‘I’m proud of being a part of taking LFC from 18th to 1st in the Premier League on throw-ins under pressure.
‘Since then, 25 professional clubs have hired me based on the impressive development in Liverpool – and I’ve been part of 14 titles, promotions and teams punching above their weight.
‘The last seasons didn’t allow me to work as much with the throw-ins as I wanted – and therefore it is natural and expectable that we say thanks for this time now.
‘Thank you for a great time and co-operation, to Liverpool FC and Jurgen Klopp, the staff and players. We had a fantastic ride.
‘What now then, Thomas? Well, exciting things ahead. Three new agreements signed for the upcoming season, also one on a new continent. I am open to even more clubs in the upcoming season.’
In an interview with The Athletic, Gronnemark added: ‘In my first two seasons, I had four or five visits to Liverpool each season, spending a week working with the players each time.
‘That was fantastic because it meant I was able to do a lot with them and we had great results with winning the Champions League and the Premier League title.

‘But then Covid-19 happened and with the travel restrictions and the crazy schedule for the players, it became very hard for me to visit the UK and spend the same amount of time with them at the training ground.
‘Last season, I only had two visits and when I spent time at Kirkby recently that was the first time for 10 months.
‘I told the club that I felt the best solution for next season was to increase the number of visits to give me the chance to work deeper with the players.
‘The second best solution was not continuing at Liverpool Football Club because I can’t have a proper influence going so long between visits.
‘The response from the club was that they didn’t think going back to four or five visits a season would be possible and that they will try to work with the throw-ins themselves going forward. I’ll always be proud to say I worked for Liverpool Football Club.’
Last year, Gronnemark described Arsene Wenger’s proposal to introduce kick-ins as the ‘biggest mistake’ in football.
‘The target is to make the game more spectacular and quicker,’ Wenger had said. ‘Maybe with throw-ins you could play with your feet in a limit of five seconds, for example.’

However, the Frenchman’s viewpoint is vehemently different to that of Gronnemark, who believes that idea would only prove detrimental to the sport from a playing and spectator viewpoint.
‘It would be the biggest mistake,’ the 46-year-old told Sky Sports.
‘They would be taking a beautiful thing away. But I am 100 per cent sure they will keep them because they will soon see if they trial it that maybe the ball won’t be lost as much with no pressure on the kicker and it will ruin the joy of the game for everyone.’
The Dane was recruited by Liverpool from trailblazing Scandinavian side Midtjylland and he did hold the world record for the longest throw-in at 51.33m recorded in 2010.
The season before he moved to Anfield, Liverpool were 18th out of the 20 Premier League teams in retaining a throw-in under pressure (2017-18 term).
One campaign later and Liverpool had improved their throw-in retention under pressure percentage from 45.4 per cent to 68.4 per cent.
This saw them rise from 18th in these standings to first in the Premier League – and second in Europe overall only behind Gronnemark’s other side Midtjylland.
